UCF men’s soccer offense and defense shine in game against UC Riverside

UCF men’s soccer scored its first clean sheet of the season against the University of California, Riverside Monday.

Knights freshman goalkeeper Juanvi Muñoz captured his first career shutout in UCF’s 3-0 win.

The keeper from Valencia, Spain, turned away all five shots he faced.

UCF Head Coach Scott Calabrese said UCF is moving in the right direction following the win.

"When you look at the game, I think we were able to do a lot of things we wanted to do," Calabrese said in a postgame press conference.

UCF softball sweeps doubleheader over JMU and DePaul

Freshman hitting and young pitching led UCF softball to a doubleheader sweep on day two of the Knights Classic.

Sophomore Grace Jewell and freshman Kaitlyn Felton each threw complete, shut out games in a strong pitching day for the Knights.

“When you have dominant pitching like that, and especially from a freshman and sophomore, it just sets up the day to get the clutch hits when we need it, and I love how we played great team defense,” UCF softball head coach Cindy Ball-Malone said.

UCF women’s basketball wins fourth game in a row to remain No. 1 in the AAC

UCF women's basketball had four players score double digits in a 71-57 win over Memphis on Saturday at Addition Financial Arena.

Knights senior guard Diamond Battles had a career-high 25 points, and Knights senior forward Brittney Smith had her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

“Every game, somebody is going to hit their shots out there, and somebody isn’t going to hit their shots," Smith said. ”I played hard, and I had my teammates backs, and my teammates had mine."

‘Cincinnati is as good as advertised’: Knights lose to Bearcats

UCF fell to the No. 3-ranked University of Cincinnati 56-21 Saturday, due in part to four touchdowns from Bearcats running back Jerome Ford, all scored within the first half of the game.

"The offensive line was the highlight of the day," Ford said. "It's the physical runs that took the heart from the defense. Tempo was the big thing this week; we wanted to take the pressure off Des (Desmond Ridder)."

UCF students react to bars reopening in the area

Florida bars reopened at 50% capacity on Monday night to mixed reactions from UCF students.

Halsey Beshears, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation secretary, announced Thursday on Twitter that bars will be allowed to reopen Monday, Sept. 14 at 50% capacity. Bars were originally shut down in the state of Florida on March 17 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Gov. Ron DeSantis reopened bars on June 5th, but shut down them down again on June 26, due to a rapid increase in cases.
